The year is 1839.  Ruth an African, formerly enslaved woman, sits in her two room Inn remembering her capture (at age 12) in the Congo by Ashanti slavers.  Her ultimate enslavement took her on a journey from Africa that ended in the Americas.  Sold numerous times, she quickly matured through unbelievable suffering, humiliation and loneliness.

Her reminisces on her capture, enslavement and eventual escape are triggered by her witnessing Africans and children in chains paraded in the road.  The dramatic narrative of Ruth's saga takes listeners along on her painful triumphal journey.
