A jointer is used on the edge of a board, a planer is used on the face. Face planing by hand takes a lot of skill (if you’re doing high-end work) and a lot of time. Try looking around your area for a small shop that can run the boards thru their planer. The cost is minimal, and the time saved can put you ahead on your project.
