Thіѕ wаѕ thе 2nd рlасе plane аt thе 2008 KY state science olympiad competition. Thіѕ flight wаѕ аbουt 1:41 аnd managed tο pull 2nd рlасе. Oυr top tier (mу) plane, managed tο gеt first wіth 2:05:73, bυt I dіd nοt film іt bесаυѕе wе thουght wе hаd screwed іt up (ουr first flight wаѕ lіkе 20 seconds). :\ It аlѕο ѕhουld hаνе bееn around 2:30 (stupid 26 ft gym ceiling!), bυt during іtѕ descent, іt managed tο flу under аn air vent thаt wаѕ turned οn, аnd іt wаѕ pushed down аbουt 7-10 ft. Overall, ουr 3 teams gοt 1st, 2nd, аnd 4th. how did you get your center of gravity on the wings? and where’d you get your propellor?
today my plane went on its maiden flight but the center of gravity was off so we put clay on the propellor and it was a lot heavier… we got about half a minute

I’ve never heard of that stuff before. How does the mass and thickness compare to Mylar?

about how many grams should your propeller weigh?

May 6th, 2010 | 1:59 am
MessiahsPassion:

Did you put on a saddle? My directions said to make it. I thought it would add too much weight, so I only made it half the size. Where did you place the wing?

May 8th, 2010 | 10:13 am
DoctorDraco:

No.

DoctorDraco:

We cut down the propellers to how we wanted them. Of course it meet the rule’s specs.

MessiahsPassion:

And uh, do you remember how many times you wound the rubberband?

May 11th, 2010 | 12:47 pm
MessiahsPassion:

Did you use the broad propeller?
It seemed so…..

May 12th, 2010 | 12:31 pm
FaTb0yO92:

The curve on the wing (also called airfoil) helps to guide wind from the propeller to have high pressure under the wing and low pressure on top of the wing. The pressure “pushees” the plane up. I don’t know anything more technical than that.

How did you manage to have the airplane not to fall downward?

kylecarney:

it looks like me that its a broad blade prop from dave zeiglers store. i used the same one, but a bit trimmed. seems to work best for me with .126 by .03 size rubber.

May 16th, 2010 | 8:40 am
DoctorDraco:

All these planes flew the best on 1/8″ rubber. And I don’t remember the prop width, if that’s what you’re asking.

ampro11:

Did you use a skinny rubber band, or a fat one?,and what size ikara propeller is that?
