hаνе еνеr actually read thе Bible? Maybe 10 tο 20% hаνе bυt thаt’s аbουt іt. Thеу post qυеѕtіοnѕ οr ѕοmе mаkе fаlѕе οr rude comments pertaining tο Christianity bυt don’t gο tο Church аnd don’t read thе Bible. Hοw саn one mаkе a qualified remark аbουt thе contents οf a book thеу hаνе never read? I doubt thаt those mаkіng such remarks аnd asking such qυеѕtіοnѕ hаνе еνеr аѕkеd аn ordained minister, attended a class/Bible study, dіd аnу Christian lіkе material reading, tο qualify thеіr point. On a national TV program a lady mаkеѕ a degrading remark аbουt something іn thе Bible. Whеn аѕkеd іf ѕhе hаd еνеr read thе Bible ѕhе ѕауѕ nο. I have done lots of research. I took a class last quarter on early christianity. Btw, most educated people do not take the bible seriously so they feel no need to read it. Would you ask a neo-Nazi his opinion on Jewish history? I think not.
AMEN to that, BROTHER/SISTER!
Good point—thank you for saying something about this. Atheists can be very verbal about logic but I think it is only logical that they read and be well versed in what the Bible says before they discuss it. Some Atheists have read and do know the Bible, but so many do not——Peace.
for one you might be surprised to see how many of them have read the bible, or at least part of it. reason for this is the fact they like the facts straight. and usually ask questions pertaining to those facts.
now a question for you have you ever read up on evolution did studies in it and biology and have you ever ridiculed it i bet you have ridiculed it and not studied it haven’t you. so where is your answer to that question.
This may come as a surprise to you but a majority of atheists on this site are former christians.
One of the primary reasons that I am an atheist is because I actually took the time to study the bible not just accept it.
From what I have seen on this site, atheists know more about the bible and the christian religion than most christians do.
Atheists’ beliefs aren’t derived from the Bible, so it isn’t necessary for ANY atheist to read it; however ALL of the atheists I know have done so. That’s part of the reason we’re atheists. It isn’t necessary to get a biased preacher’s opinion about it in order to read and see what it SAYS. IT ISN’T OUR RELIGION. Preachers are notorious for ignoring the violent, immoral parts of the Bible, anyway.
Have you asked what percentage of CHRISTIANS have read the ENTIRE Bible cover-to-cover with their own two eyeballs? I bet it’s LESS than 10-20%.
I’d say the same percentage of atheists have read the Bible as Christians have.
This is shocking considering 82% of the US considers itself Christian:
“The United States is the most religious nation in the developed world, if religiosity is measured by belief in all things supernatural — from God and the Virgin Birth to the humbler workings of angels and demons. Americans are also the most religiously ignorant people in the Western world. Fewer than half of us can identify Genesis as the first book of the Bible, and only one third know that Jesus delivered the Sermon on the Mount.”
Christians do exactly the same thing! They judge first, and ask questions later! Trust me, I know!
They attack other Christians, so why would they spare the Atheists?
Big deal! So you spoke with ‘one’ person who said she hasn’t read the Bible! Well, I;ve never read the Bible, but I have a good understanding of what is in it! And who says anyone has to read the Bible to make a decision about it!
People have clear ideas on what they believe! It is not up to you, or anyone else to decide for them! That is where most Christians run into trouble! They have to Push their ”product” in order to sell, and get their good reward!
Most Christians I have met have never read the Bible… Most can’t even list the Ten Commandments. It constantly amazes me how little most Christians know about what exactly their religion believes in.
Also, have you read the Koran? The Talmud? Hindu and Buddist scriptures? The Book of Mormon? Dianetics? By your logic, you would have to carefully study all of these texts before you could make up your mind that you don’t believe in them!
Given how few Christian on here seem to know their bible I wouldn’t talk. It’s not our ‘holy’ book, remember.
Atheists read the Bible, more than most Christians. Go figure….
I agree. How can anyone make a qualified remark about a book they never read. Like Darwin, for example. I love listening to people like Ray Comfort blast off about transitional species and never finding one in history… hilarious. I also listen to a lot of Christians I know who have never read the Bible, and will admit to it freely. Whats your beef? We don’t have to read the Bible and go to church to understand the falsity of any religion. You never checked out Hinduism before did you? I’ll bet you never gave it any thought! Why would it matter to you? I agree more people should read the Bible though. The Bible (ironically enough) breeds more atheists than I care to imagine. It worked for me. I read it twice. I was confirmed Christian. I took communion… I just don’t believe it. I rejected it right along with the Boogey Man (not nearly as scary as the god of Abraham)- both of whom I saw equal amounts of truth in.
How could ANYONE expect us to read their religious text if they haven’t read and equally considered other religion’s texts…
