Try jewelry boxes, bird houses and children’s furniture. Your choice of wood and finish are important – no lead based paint.
In general, go for retro designs.

I have been doing this, not on ebay, for years. My best sellers by far have been, in order from best to least, bird houses(1), and what-not shelves(2), hand turned wood bowls(3), and unusual pieces made from unusual woods.
My best markets has been at craft fairs and flea markets.
